Peter and Lesley

The beginning and vision

In 1999 after taking Aid to Dorohoi for six years, Peter and Lesley Butcher felt that God was calling them to make a greater commitment to those in need in Dorohoi and the vision for a Family Support Centre – a Centre of Hope – was born with the aim of reaching out with God’s love to the poor, disadvantaged and unloved of Dorohoi by providing practical help, comfort and spiritual encouragement. Our only capital was tied up in our house in Horley, so in 2000 we sold it, bought a small house in a cheaper area and used the remaining capital raised to buy land and finance the building of the Centre which was opened in May 2002. By Autumn 2006 we were outgrowing the Centre building so we built the Annex which was completed at the beginning of 2010 enabling us to increase the number of meals, activities and help that we provide. What happens at the Centre?

Showing God’s Love in Action (GLIA) in everything we do is why we are here. We are not simply a Benefits Agency; we help with physical and material needs as Jesus taught but our aim is that every person who comes to the Centre feels the love and compassion of God through each member of the GLIA Team.
