Public Office

There is a public office where people can come and register and importantly, have the opportunity to talk through problems, whether family, financial or health and if needed, receive help and/or advice.

Meals and Food Bags

Meals

We provide approx 240 three course meals over four days a week and for many people it is the only time they eat meat. We serve the families at the tables and endeavour to give them dignity and respect. The meals are prepared and cooked by Ana and Ami.

Food Bags

We also provide about 80 food bags a month which contain basic items such as flour,oil, sugar, rice, pasta, etc as well as soap, toothpaste and hand-washing powder and candles for those who have no electricity. For many people who have no mains gas we help with the cost of refilling gas bottles for cooking. Buying wood in bulk during the summer months means that we are also able to help some families with wood during the winter.

Food/Meal Delivery

For the elderly and lonely who cannot get to the Centre, meals are taken to them and if needed, any shopping they need can be done for them at the same time. Particularly in the winter it means regular visits to check they are alright as most of them do not have family in the area.

Those with learning difficulties

There are about 20 – 25 young men and women who come to the Centre, who were brought up in the old orphanages in Dorohoi, and are now in their twenties/thirties and need special attention. They come for showers and haircuts by Costel who also shaves some of the men. We also have a supply of clothes so that they can have clothes washed and after showering can change into clean ones. Some are not comfortable having a meal in the cantena so either they have some soup and bread or some pasta and sauce and a hot drink and biscuits which they can sit and eat while listening to Christian music which most of them enjoy.

Social Activities

In the town we have many elderly folk that live on their own, have no family around them and are lonely. Early in 2018 we started a monthly meeting for the elderly ladies when they can come and have a time together, share their experiences, occasionally have a nurse or doctor etc come and talk about issues specific to them and have a cup of something and a cake.

Showers and washing

We have our own water supply pumped into the Centre and Annex and approx 70 people and families come regularly for hot showers. We provide shower gel, shampoo, clean towels, hair dryers and we also wash clothes for several people and families who for various reasons, cannot do this for themselves.

Children

Playground

Several playgrounds have been constructed around the town – unfortunately most of them are unsupervised and some charge for the children to use them. When our playground was built in 2002 it was only the second playground in the town – the other one was very old and worn.  Our playground  is very popular with the children and teenagers, with toys, bats and balls and most popular of all, footballs, for the paved and grassed areas, and benches where they can just “chill out”. It is always supervised by the Team during the day and Magnolia at weekends and evenings during the summer which means parents can relax knowing their children are cared for. It is also used by a nearby school during the week. In the winter evenings and Saturdays, children come to the Centre to play, do homework or just chat; again under the supervision of Magnolia.
