For several years now we have been helping towards education costs – especially for those that live in the villages around Dorohoi. When the children reach the age of 14 they are no longer schooled in the villages but need to come into Dorohoi for high school. For quite a few this means the end of their education as their parents cannot afford the bus fare to bring them in to Dorohoi. We help by paying the fare. We have others that we help towards the cost of school books etc. We currently help about 25 youngsters and have added 5 more this year.
A recent report from Save the Children reported that for the year 2022 – 2023 approximately 25% of children in Romania did not go on with their education past the age of 14/15!
We have felt for a long time that educating the children at least to get a Baccalaureate qualification is an important way of helping families living in poverty to start to climb out of the poverty cycle.
We have and are still helping one or two teenagers with some of their university costs.
This all obviously involves costs and if you would like to help with this programme then for details of how to donate please go to the Support page
